Frequently Asked Questions
ProSeries Alarms
Q: On my alarm module, there is a yellow wire that exits the back of the unit. What is this for?
A: The yellow wire on the back of the unit is the antenna wire. This wire receives the signal from your remote transmitter. When installing the unit, antenna placement is critical. If you are using the standard range unit which has the yellow antenna wire make sure this yellow wire is not coiled up or tied in with any other wiring. Bring this wire up into the dash as possible. If at all possible, bring the wire through the plastic of the dash (such as between the dash and the steering column) making sure that this wire is above the window glass area of the driver's door. If you have and "E Model", make sure the long black antenna is exposed vertically or horizontally on the windshield with approximately six to eight inches below the top of the windshield. To get as much length of the antenna exposed as possible, make sure the main module is mounted as far to the left hand side and as high up under the dash as possible.
Q: Can I hook a remote starter to my alarm system?
A: The only ProSeries system that is not capable of operating a remote starter is the 1302. On the ProSeries, the use of channel 2 is set up just for remote starter output. All that is needed, is to connect the output from channel 2 to the auxiliary input on the remote starter.
Q: Can I hook up an external shock sensor or radar sensor to my system?
A: The ProSeries alarms are designed specifically for adding external shock sensors or radar sensors. To add these, simply connect to the major and the minor shock sensor inputs.
Q: What types of violations will set off my alarm system?
A: The ProSeries alarm monitors several inputs that will trigger violations. The door pin is one such input. The internal shock sensor monitors impact on the vehicle looking for a violation. The current sensing option on the unit, when programmed "on", will look for an increase in current due to the hood light or the trunk light coming on or by using an external shock sensor and tying into the major and minor trigger inputs will also show a violation.
Q: What do I use the green and the yellow wires for?
A: As discussed in the above question, the green and yellow wires are inputs to be used for an external sensor, whether that sensor is an impact sensor or a radar sensor is up to you. If you choose to use a hood or trunk pin switch, use the yellow wire as the input and do not use the green. Remember these are negative (-) inputs and a ground pulse on the yellow wire will set the system off and a ground pulse on the green wire will set the system in "warn away".
Q: What do you mean by "major" and "minor" triggers?
A: Major trigger refers to full alarm violation and minor trigger is a "warn away" violation.
Q: What does door pin type refer to?
A: There are two types of door pins. A positive door pin and a negative door pin. In most vehicles the door pin type is negative, but most Ford vehicles are positive. A negative door pin type shows a ground when the door is opened and the dome light is on. A positive door pin shows positive when the door is open and the dome light is on.
Q: Do I need to hook up every wire to make my system work?
A: Depending on the options that you wish to install on your system, you will not need to hook up all wires in the harness. It is not necessary to hook up the lock and unlock outputs, dome light supervision, trunk release, major or minor inputs and depending on the level of security you are trying to achieve, you do not have to install the starter kill. There will also be several unmarked wire colors in your harness that are not mentioned. This is a universal wiring harness and if these colors are not mentioned in your manual, do not use them.
Q: Why do the parking lights remain on when I disarm the system?
A: This feature is provided so that when you disarm your alarm in a dark parking lot you do not approach a dark vehicle. The parking lights will remain on after disarming approximately one minute or until you insert the key into the ignition and start the vehicle.
Q: What other options can I use with channel 2 or channel 3?
A: If you do not wish to use these outputs for options such as a remote starter or electric trunk release, other options such as window roll up or an electric sunroof opener can be added to these channels.
Q: What is anti-carjacking and what does it do?
A: Anti-carjacking is an option that is added only to 7002PRO. This feature will help you recover your vehicle sooner. In the case of a carjacking, a hidden toggle switch is triggered to the "on" position, once the driver's side door is opened and closed, will start a one minute countdown before triggering the alarm system. Once the system is triggered, the starter kill will open and the alarm will cycle until the anti-carjacking mechanism is turned off by the owner.
Q: Do I have to hook up the ignition sensor wire?
A: Yes. If this wire is not hooked up, the system will have no way of knowing when the vehicle is started with the key or when to turn on passive arming.
Q: Do I have to use a relay for my siren?
A: The siren output on the ProSeries alarm systems is a positive output. It does not require a relay to drive a siren. If you are planning to drive more than one siren, a relay will be needed to do so.
Q: My LED stays on all the time. What does this mean?
A: If you have noticed that the LED stays on constantly, without flashing, and the system does not arm or disarm, you have programmed your system into valet mode. Refer to your Installation and Operating Guide for more programming information.
Q: I have entered programming into my module that I wish to remove. I have tried reprogramming without success. What should I do?
A: The next step would be to clear the memory EPROM. To do this simply take the negative door pin input (BLACK WITH YELLOW STRIPE wire) the minor trigger input (GREEN) and the major trigger input (YELLOW) and tie all three wires together and press and hold the override button while holding the override button. Place all three wires to ground. The siren will chirp three times letting you know that the programming is complete. Next, remove the three wires from ground and release the override switch. Now try the remote control and the main module should not respond. Unplug the module from the main wiring harness for approximately one minute. Plug back into the main harness and try the remote transmitter. The unit should come up and start working. The unit is now back in factory default.
Q: Where do I mount the unit?
A: The unit is designed to be mounted under the dash of the vehicle. After the unit is completely installed and tested, you can simply use wire ties to attach the vehicle's wiring harness under the dash. Make sure that you have installed the siren portion of the alarm out under the hood.
Q: Can I program an extra remote transmitter for this unit?
A: If you have lost your transmitter or just need an extra one, check your Installation and Operating Guide for instructions.
Q: Do I need a relay to release my trunk?
A: Yes. A relay will be needed to apply voltage to your factory trunk release wire. This is needed whether the voltage on the trunk release is negative or positive.
Q: Do I need extra relays for door locks?
A: This all depends on the type of door lock system that is installed on your vehicle. There are three basic types; positive, negative and reverse polarity. If your vehicle has reverse polarity door locks, you will need extra relays. There are approximately ten other rare types of door lock systems that will also need relays. Please contact Tech Support.
Q: Do I need relays for my dome light supervision?
A: Yes. A relay will be needed to operate the dome light supervision feature. This feature will turn on the dome light when the doors are unlocked from the transmitter.
Q: If I install a ProSeries system, will I automatically get a discount on my insurance?
A: In most cases, depending on the state in which you live and the laws in your state and the policy that you hold, when using passive arming you may be eligible for an insurance discount. Check with your insurance company for more details.
Q: Do I need to use a relay when connecting a remote starter to my system?
A: If you can trigger the auxiliary input from the remote starter by simply touching that auxiliary input to ground, you will not need a relay to operate this feature.
Q: I would like to install several ProSeries alarms in different vehicles. Will one remote interfere with another?
A: No, each unit is individually coded and has its own unique code number. This code is located on the back of your transmitter on a white sticker. PLEASE write this code number down and place it in your Installation and Operating Guide in your glove compartment in the event that you need another transmitter.
Q: I have several ProSeries units. Can I use one remote to operate all the units?
A: This can be done by simply using transmitter #1 and by simply connecting power to each unit and using transmitter #1 to initiate the units. The units will respond to the commands if they are in the same range.
