A: - If power and ground are ok, switch Park Light switch to (+). If it starts clicking, the unit is in safe mode.
A: - The 791 Bypass needs to be CLEARED; when the Bypass is CLEARED the RED LED will remain “ON”
A: - NO, you do not cut YELLOW PASSLOCK wire in the Vehicle when connecting the 791, just tie YELLOW wire from the 8-Pin Harness from 791 to the YELLOW PASSLOCK 1, YELLOW PASSLOCK 2 or WHITE VATS wire in the vehicle.
A: - The STARTER CRANK wire from the 8-Pin Harness on the 791 BYPASS (YELLOW/BLACK wire) must be connected to the STARTER/CRANK WIRE on the VEHICLE (YELLOW OR PURPLE in the Ignition Harness) if you are using a T-HARNESS, tap the YELLOW/BLACK wire from the 8-Pin 791 harness into the heavy gauge YELLOW/BLACK in the T-Harness, for this RED L.E.D. to turn out. Also make sure the WHITE wire from the 8-Pin Harness on the 791 is connected to the Ignition #1 wire PINK on the Vehicle and if you are using a T-HARNESS, connect it to the WHITE wire.
A: - The VEHICLE may have an ANTI-THIEFT SYSTEM that REQUIRES a BYPASS MODULE 791.
A: - The BLUE wire on 791 may not be receiving a ground from the main unit while Remote Starting. Check this wire for GROUND when you press START on the Remote Starter.
A: - The 791 you may have the Old Style Transponder Loop Antenna, contact Tech Support and request a New Style Transponder Loop Antenna, position this New Style Transponder Loop Antenna between the Factory Transponder Pickup Antenna and the end of lock tumbler next to keyhole.
A: - Some Older manuals left out where to connect the WHITE, RED, YELLOW, and YELLOW/BLACK or YELLOW that has the crank tag on the wire.
A: - If the RED LED Light is "ON" all the time the 791 DOES NOT NEED CLEARED it is already CLEARED, you do not need to CLEAR the 791 for TRANSPONDER SYSTEMS: with the RED LED Light out, to CLEAR the MEMORY or the stored voltage in the 791 do this: take the BLUE wire from the 8-Pin 791 Harness and attach it to a GOOD BODY GROUND. Unplug and Plug the 8-Pin Harness from the 791 (3) Three times, before Plugging the 8-Pin Harness back into the 791 for the final time, remove the BLUE wire from GROUND and do not reconnect, leave it hanging. Plug the 8-Pin Harness back into the 791 and the RED LED Light should turn "ON" and remain "ON". For VATS, PASSLOCK 1 and PASLOCK 2, Start the vehicle using the Ignition Key. Watch the RED LED Light, it should turn "OFF" in 10 to 20 Seconds. When the RED LED Light turn "OFF" the 791 has learned the Anti-Theft Voltage. Shut the vehicle "OFF" with the Key and then reconnect the BLUE wire from the 791 to the Remote Starter.
A: - The BLUE wire from the 791 will connect to the BLUE/BLACK Ignition #3 Control Output on these units.
A: - For GM vehicles the systems are the, (1) PASSKEY or (VATS) Security System. The key here has a visible BLACK circular pellet in its metal shaft of the Key. (2) PASSLOCK I, and PASSLOCK II. (3) PK3, (GM transponder). The key has a RF radio component inside the key handle. There is a visible PK3 on the key itself. For Ford, Chrysler, and most Import models, there is the TRANSPONDER type. The Ford uses the PATS and SECURILOCK System, which uses a Transponder Key. Chryslers (Sentry key) and most all Imports use a Transponder Key.
A: - YES, a Programmed TRANSPONDER Key, a Key that you can start the vehicle with, MUST be placed and left inside the 791 or IF 114 Bypass Module to Remote Start your vehicle.
A: - To read the Resistance for these GM Anti-Theft Systems will require a VOLT/OHM Meter.
A: - The 791 Bypass needs to be CLEARED; when the Bypass is CLEARED the RED LED will remain “ON”. If this does not work, unplug the 791 and you have tripped the FACTORY ANTI-THEFT System to re-set it put the Key in the Ignition Switch turn it to the “ON” Position, OPEN the Drives Door and leave the vehicle set for 15 minutes to reset the Factory Anti-Theft System.
A: - Make sure the PURPLE Bulb Check wire from the 791 is putting a GROUND to the BLACK Bulb Check wire in the Ignition Switch harness on the Vehicle during the Cranking cycle of the Remote Starter.
A: - A programmed Ignition Key will only need placed inside the 791and IF 114 Bypass Module of a TRANSPONDER Anti-Theft System.
A: - NO, the TRANSPONDER Antenna Loop is only needed when doing a Transponder System.
A: - PK3 is GM’s TRANSPONDER Anti-Theft System; follow the directions for a Transponder System on this vehicle.
A: - Connect the RED wire first to 12Volts constant. If you Remote Start the vehicle and the SECURITY Light on the Dash stays “ON”, remove the RED wire from 12 Volts constant and connect it to the Starter/Crank wire on the vehicle.
A: - The RED LED Light is located to the Left of the 8-Pin Harness Plug on the P.C. Board of the 791. It is a small surface mounted LED that is WHITE when the 791 Bypass Module is not powered up.
A: - In most cases the “VALET KEY” will only LOCK and UNLOCK the Vehicles Doors, some do Start the vehicle. If you can place this Valet Key in the Ignition Switch, press START on the Remote Control and the vehicle starts and runs then YES you can use that key.
A: - This will depend on the Factory Anti-Theft System you are Bypassing, check in the “INSTALLATION MANUALS” Section of this website under “Quick Installation Diagrams” for a Diagram of the 791 Bypass for the Anti-Theft System you are bypassing. There you will find a diagram that shows you the “basic wires” to use for your install.
A: - The VATS Anti-Theft System for GM is a RESISTOR BASED Anti-Theft System and DOES NOT Require an Extra Key, follow the directions in the 791 or IF 114 for VATS.
